Here is where we stand... Camping or a trip to Houston. Both are great ideas.
Camping... It was cool to see my cousin Patrick reading my blog in Minnesota... and he gave great advice to help my prissy wife work through her fears of camping by staying in a pop up camper. I think this is a strong possibility. Our original plans for the summer were to go RVing but that got tossed with a new baby, no money, and gas prices. So this would be a nice compromise. My only hesitation is that I am taking Cameron (my middle child) camping for man talk. That may be too much of the wild for me. (Thanks Pat for the advice and reading my blog!)
Houston... This is a great offer!!!! By no other than our good friends who loved us so much they moved nearly 20 hours away!!!!! How awesome is that! We love Texas. We could stop and visit our other friends in Mississippi who also loved us so much they moved to Mississippi. (Come on... something has to be wrong if you willing move to Mississippi.) :) Anyway... this would be great. It would be a good road trip for the family. The downsides are... if my wife goes shopping I might as well go RVing. Do the Watson's really want to have 5 crazy Ruppes in their home? It might ruin the new friendships they are trying to develop. However, did I hear golf? That could change everything.
Where do I go from here? Here is the deal. I have decided I am going to pick our vacation based on some recommendation that we get on this blog. It will be fun. Before we choose I want to beg one more time for other ideas. So chime in. What cheap and creative ideas do you have to help me become the most popular dad ever!!! I will be using your ideas for my vacation so please help. Click on the link below or simply respond to this post. Thanks!

There are 6 crazy Ruppes, if I recall correctly and they mesh great with the 5 and a half (the dog) Watson's. Yes, you heard golf. And shopping is outlet - way less $$$. Offer is permanent. No expiration date. We have plenty of room. Good luck on the vacation hunt! Let us know if we win the bid! :)
Camping good...camping cabin even better. You get all the benefits of camp life - the s'mores, the fire, no electronic devices, cooking breakfast outside in the early morning, and did I mention s'mores? And as an added bonus, you get a real bed to sleep in, electricity, and usually AC. Camping cabins are simply small cabins with one or two rooms that contain only beds. You still have to cook outside, live outside, and use the campground's restroom and shower facilities. If it rains you have a place to play Phase 10 and Monopoly without being miserable. Plus tell Mrs. H that hot chocolate tastes WAY better in the great outdoors. There are several state parks and private campgrounds that have such things. Let me know if you'd like a list.
Rent a Beach House. Depending on location you can find an affordable house on different islands within the state. You just rent the house for the week and buy your groceries. The beach is fun for all ages, and most islands are close to fun things for all ages. I can assist in finding houses @ Edisto Island b/c its near my hometown. Let me know!

I hear Charlotte is nice this time of year.
Hey Chris! I guess you decided on camping instead of the Houston via Mississippi trip. Too bad, we could have hung out with Brett Favre. I hear he's got nothing to do these days:-) We miss you guys and NRHC tremendously. Still looking for a church but nothing compares. Take care.
