I am looking for a coach... and not for a sport. (My sporting days are behind me.) I am looking for a life coach. Sounds weird I know... but I am beginning to see the value in learning from someone who has went before me. I am always telling my kids that there are two ways to learn... from my mistakes or from your own mistakes. One seems less painful for them. Which begs the question for myself, "Why then not learn from others mistakes and good choices?"
I now have some new "handles" on communicating this big idea. While reading "The Divine Mentor" by Wayne Cordero I had some clarity on this topic. Our decisions come down to Wisdom or Consequences. That we will either learn from the wisdom of others or through our own consequences. One cost a lot more than the other.
I have been trying to figure out why I keep putting it off... Pride! I don't want anyone thinking I need someone else's help. Looking back that has been very costly and painful. Like I said in my sermon last week, "I am making a choice to be desperate. I don't want to wait until I become so desperate that I have to look for help."
So, I am looking for a coach. How about you?

I find that God puts many different and wonderful people in my path to coach me on a daily basis. I just don't have to pay for them. You have been a life coach for me as well as your lovely wife. I am grateful for all I learned from you and while your official title from me is "Friend" I think a life coach can be anyone you learn from. There are even days I learn from my kids! I would love to hear if a true 'life coach' makes a difference but for now I choose to let life in general coach me. Good luck!
Great idea for pastors. At our previous church, each of the professional staff members had "liaison elders". There purpose was to be a life sounding board for the pastor, to listen, advise and hold accountable. The senior pastor chose someone who was wise, Biblically sound, older, had a good family history, high integrity business history, and was assertive enough to speak up. Many times this person made a visible difference in the choices and direction the senior Pastor was going. The effects of these L.E.'s for each staff person was evident
I did 15 weeks with a life coach recently. It was extremely helpful, and I came away with some new tools. Another great thing was that this coach was offering pro bono coaching.
Great words Anne. I totally agree. I think our best mentors are those people that are around us. I am now looking to supplement those people with some people who are strong where I am weak. Like Business. Like Coaching. People who have been where I am and are a little further down the road. I hope they will guide me where I can avoid the pitfalls they have encountered. So... I guess it's both/ and.
Thanks for reading my blog. Sure do miss you guys!
Hello Pastor!
I am a Christian, and a life coach, and commend you on making the decision to work with someone to challenge and support you. Among God's greatest gifts is the love and wisdom of friends and family, but I would add that life coaches (those who are certified) are trained to specifically introduce some tools, challenges to our thinking, and support that our loved ones don't necessarily provide in quite the same way. Nor is it their job to! I just wanted to introduce myself to you, your family, and your network of friends and make myself available in any way I might be able to support anyone looking for growth! My coaching practice offers life as well as business coaching, and the website is www.thrivelifeconsulting.com! Feel free to visit anytime!
